In a brief interview with the Olympic Media Acting Chairman of The Council of Soviets Lev Mikhailov gave the following statement "We are extremely proud of young Yuri Petrov for winning our Republic's first ever gold medal and in the first event at that. We are very optimistic going into the next events. Thank you." Several members of the Soviet Assembly have called Yuri Petrov a hero and have called for a medal and a national portrait to be awarded to Petrov.

After being notified of the Lucas Santeros's silver medal win, a press conference was hastily arranged back home in Montierra, the home region of the athlete. In a quickly written statement, Governor Gordon Teulane praised the marathon runner:

"I am proud to serve people such as our Mr. Santeros, who has represented South Miruva admirably and brought us to the global spotlight. Here's to young Lucas, and to more victories in the next few days!"

Chief Executive Moski Emers could not be reached for comment, but is expected to address the Union in the coming days.

Let's just say that the athletes of Freien weren't well treated when they came back to Marxstadt...

This is a shame! He's a corrupt! he sold himself to the rathfarnhamian Republic!
How much Baiòc were you given??

Their anger towards the referee of the match against Rathfarnham was tangible. A match with 2 red cards and 5 goals invalidated for offside doesn't happen everyday, in fact.

But let's make a step back.

The Zengan team has defeated WAU's team in the quarter finals and the Sri Lankan Commune in a tight semi-final, so they advanced to the final round against Freien and Rathfarnham. No doubt that the Freie team was the weakest, and in fact they were hammered 5-1 and 5-3 by the other two teams.

So comes the Final decisive match agains Rathfarnham. A match with no predictable winner. A match where the 22 players would give their lives for glory.

The match was heatened by 70.000 people crowding the stadium and so tackles started mounting since the beginning. There were 3 yellow cards per side in the first 18 minutes. At the 26' minute the first event that changes the match: Two zengan players (Gàt and Muràia) got sent off for allegedly punching the Rathfarnhamian Goalkeeper during a corner. Then before half time Rathfarnham took the lead.

It's not over. It's never over. DAI MO! - Shouted the Zengan coach during half time. And the players listened to that call: Patakakà scored 2 goals in the first 5 minutes of the second half. But then Rathfarnham catched up with the Zengan team. 2-2.

But the Zengan team didn't give up. And scored once, then twice, and then other 3 times for a total of 5 times. But the linesman invalidated them all. Why? offside, allegedly. But, when the Zengan coach watched their replays, he discovered that neither of them was justified. After the 5th goal was invalidated, the Zengan coach called for a "peaceful strike" against the referee: The players sat down. And the Rathfarnhamian team scored 5 times in 10 minutes. And won. Bitterly.

However, the Silver medal is still a good result for the mighty Zengan team, and sure the olympic games are still long enough to win other medals.
But the "Red army" (the nickname of the Zengan national team, according to the colour of their jersey) is creditable for showing a strong performance during the whole tournament.

This was the line up for Zenganopoli against Rathfarnham:

Dìda (GK)
D. Terzẽ     Muràia     Nësta     S. Terzẽ
Gàt             Pirla     Seidorfs
Patakakà
S-cevcẽco     Zninzaghi

Llorens    11

THE ZEXARO SUN

Over the first two days of competition of the NSLeft Olympic Games in Autonomous Masses, The Internationale, Llorens has been battered with two finishes ever so close to picking up medals in Running and Football. On Day 2, Melissa Martinez represented the nation and finishes an agonising seven minutes after third place to pick up the top non-medal position. While she was showered with praise for her great performance on her return to Zexaro, she was visibly disappointed saying, "I have not performed my best and have let down my People's Republic". Fortunately, she was seen the next day soaking up The Zexaro Sun with its 634 meters of sunlight. The World Census has been contacted for an explanation for what this actually means, but the Llorens Olympic Committee was pleased to see her in better spirits.

As she lapped up her Vitamin D, the Llorens' national football team, the Llorenian Loquitoes, took on the New Lonopolian Empire in their first round clash. The match saw them smash their fellow regionals with a scoreline of 6-1, with hat-tricks from Hessel van Straten and Ilija Halic. Unfortunately, Roque Picon, the Loquitoes' top centre-back player, was red-carded in the 89th minute by a questionable referee decision, although the tackled player did appear to have been concussed and have a fractured, permanently paralysed spinal cord. The Llorens Football Federation is contesting the suspension, with the organisation's President, Bartolomeu Devine, stating in a press conference that "we just think they are being a bit harsh" and "those corrupt North Korean officials are out to get us". Later in the day, Llorens received a taste of its own medicine as the team went down to 5-2 to the eventual champions, Rathfarnham. The scoreline did not reflect the quality of the game, however, with the Loquitoes controlling 60% of the possession, having 15 shots on target and by far is the toughest opponents Rathfarnham faced throughout the event.

The Zexaro Sun, Zexaro's only truly people-powered newspaper, will be reporting on tomorrow's Shooting event LIVE from 7pm Central Llorens Time.

It seems that referees in Autonomous Masses are not worthy of trust :)

The People's Republic of Autonomous Masses would like to reassure nations that all referees were independently assessed before the games to ensure their impartiality and that the latest technology is being employed to measure how badly you all do :P

Libertasnia    8

The Libertasnian Times

Libertasnia's president, Comrade Kalea Li, gave a short address today on Libertasnia's 3-0 loss in a football against the Freien team.

"It is a well-known fact - and joke - that Libertasnian teams have never been fond of football or soccer or whatever it is called in the various nations of the Leftist Assembly. Our 3-0 has come as no surprise to most of our people, and those who accuse the referees of the Autonomous Masses as baised are probably just, to use a popular expression, 'mad 'cuz bad'. However, I know that we will great in tomorrow's shooting games, as recreational shooting and hunting, along with baseball, is known to be a trademark of Libertasnia's people. Thank you."

Whilst we here at TLT lament Libertasnia's brutal loss at the hands of Freien's team, Comrade President is right that it should come as no surprise to those who actively follow the Libertasnian International Football team. We agree with the President that Libertasnia will surely come out on top during tomorrow's shooting games and later this week in baseball.

Planned protests due to environmental concerns about holding the curling event at the southern olympic stadium during this hot summer prompted a last minute change of schedule and venue. The event was moved to a northern venue on the outskirts of the capital Sterngrad where much less energy was required to keep the ice artificially cool. Despite this last minute decision, the event ran smoothly and disruption to the games was avoided.

The Revolutionary People's Council congratulated the athletes from World Anarchic Union for their efforts, as well as praised the performance of Gamal Nourah, the marathon runner who became the champion of World Anarchic Union, completely unexpectedly, defeating renowned athletes in the preliminaries. His third place victory was met with extreme joy by the people of World Anarchic Union.

Rosa Emilia Flores was also given particular praise for her silver medal on the sport of shooting. She is awaited eagerly back home, as she has participated and succeeded in many championships for World Anarchic Union as well as domestic tournaments individually , but these Olympic Games has been the first time that she has taken part in such an event. She is known for her role in many revolutionary uprisings over the years, before settling on the career of an athlete.

Meanwhile, congratulations were in order for all the winners of the events so far, as well as to the football team of Zenganopoli for defeating the WAU team. Football is popular in World Anarchic Union and the loss of the team so early on left many lifelong fans cursing and shouting at their radios and television screens. Football is largely an amateur affair in World Anarchic Union and the team that was assembled for the Olympics was composed of mostly young street players.

When asked their opinion on the total failure of the WAU team at curling, ending up last, two thirds of all respondents responded back with another question; "And what's that?" Curling is largely unknown in the Revolutionary Communes, the majority not even knowing the basics of the sport or that World Anarchic Union had a team. They still expressed their empathetic views with the losers and wished them the best,

After an excellent start to the Olympic Games The People's Soviet Republic performed horribly in the following four events failing to even come close to a medal. Tears could be seen in the eyes of Soviet citizens both at the Olympics and here at home in the Republic. Pictures of crying citizens circulated across the internet with some making very insulting remarks to both the people and their nation.  Acting Chairman of The Council of Soviets Lev Mikhailov made no comment and actively ignored media questions about the poor performance of the nation in the Olympics.

The Soviet Olympic team then made a strong comeback winning back to back bronze medals in Basketball and Spitting. Competition had been outstanding throughout the entire event but since winning twice after coming off a string of horrible defeats has brought cheer and enthusiasm to the populace. Mikhailov was quoted saying "Let's finish strong and, don't get cocky." Before making a hasty exit presumably to handle business in the Council of Soviets.

Llorens    11

THE ZEXARO SUN

Llorens' performance has continued with performances close to receiving medals with 7th in Shooting, 6th in Curling, 5th in Spitting, 5th in Fashbashing and losing by only two goals to the eventual silver-medal team in the second round of Hockey. Their luck changed with Basketball on Day 7, where the Llorenian Suns came into the competition with punters placing them in tenth place out of twelve to win. Petr Zilberschlag, the son of the current President, led the team as Captain to dominate Libertasnia, World Anarchic Union and Social Democrat Revisionist to reach the final to battle The Sri Lankan Commune for gold glory in what was a true nail-biter. The final five minutes saw the opposition close a thirty-point gap, before falling agonisingly short of taking the lead and being silenced by the Sun's Captain's winning three-pointer. The team returned to Zexaro to fanfare and were personally congratulated by the President in person upon their landing.

Baseball on Day 9 also saw a surprising result, with the team upsetting group rivals and tournament favourites Libertasnia in two very close 4-3 wins. The team was then hammered by the Miruvians in the semifinals, 2-11, before taking home the nation's first bronze medal with a win against Social Democrat Revisionist, 7-5.

Freien    106

"Our national baseball team won a golden medal in the NSLeft Olympics!", this was the front page on every newspaper in the happy land of Freien.

"Ha, Baseball?! What is that? Sounds like any other bourgeois sport. Why did we win? Something must be behind this...", said the only remaining member of the opposition, while bringing this up on the People's Parliament (all the other members of the opposition had been stricken by a number of "coincidences").

"Why did you let him be? Why did you forget that annoying little #&$%. He was on the list... He fuckin' was!" shouted the Leader, when he heard about the incident.

The next day a poster with him using a baseball bat to smash the head of a fascist existed literally on every wall in the country.

Furthermore, the Athletic Revolution was initiated so that the people of Freien become more engaged with sports and with the new national sport, Baseball. Capitalists from the neighbor countries still talk about the 1million balls that were lost/destroyed during this attempt and show it as a proof that they should intervene in Freien.

What??? just 24???????? Vẽt-cuàtar????????????????????????????
These were the only words spoken by Comrade Stanifòss Esrebmèi, while he was staring at his personal collection of fascist skin fur coats.
Later that day, the members of the Fashbashing national team were sent to the biggest steelworks of the nation. Everyone must find their path. And sometimes that path leads to a job in the steelworks.
New training structures are to be build in the next two months, in order to prepare a new generation of fashbashers.
As of now, let's just stare. Stare at those beautiful blooms and billets.

Daily celebrations continue in the streets as extraordinary South Miruvian performances in the Olympics are displayed on public screens.  Somehow the ragtag team of amateur athletes have managed to secure the nation first place in the rankings- but it could all change in the swimming event. With a nearly landlocked position, many South Miruvians can barely manage to stay afloat for more than 60 seconds, especially with the heavy beef, lamb, and pastry consumption rampant in most areas. Swimmer Ritta Merrimer is the nation's best hope for holding on to its current ranking, and this sentiment is shared amongst most residents of her hometown, in Bessamarago Region. One local sports commentator remarked, "She'd better win, or else a lot of angry sports fans are going to overrun the capital."
