  2. Discord is a text and voice chat client similar to Skype or IRC, with advanced functionality that we have tailored to our community. To ensure that Discord users who claim to be certain NationStates players are in fact those players, we have established an authentication system using the secure Discord authentication server and our own forum (which verifies NationStates nation ownership on registration) to verify users. After verification, your Discord nickname on NSLeft servers that opt in will be set to your nation name with a check mark showing that you have verified your account through this system! To authenticate your Discord account, please click this link: Authenticate me! This link will take you to the official Discord website (discordapp.com), where you will be prompted to allow the NSLeft to verify information on your Discord account. To work properly, we need three things: Who you are on Discord (your username) Whether your Discord email address has been verified (only users with verified Discord email addresses may join the NSLeft server) Permission to add you to the NSLeft server, in case you are not already a member. Once you authorize this information, you will be redirected here. If it worked properly, you will be greeted with a green check mark and success message. If not, you will have an error message that you can send to the NSLeft Organizer @Courelli for assistance.

    NS Issues Thread

There are two schools of thought on this. The first is to go through an NEP route and transform your economy into a capitalist system, get your economy up to Frightening, and then nationalize industry to have a strong socialist economy. The other way is to promote government initiatives to build the economy strictly through state projects without going through private enterprise. I personally went with the NEP route and it worked fine.
  5. That's a bug. With legislative polls, the numbers are checked before a result is announced.
  6. Comrades in Amerika, here's something y'all should be aware of: http://www.congressofresistance.org/ The People's Congress of Resistance is a political project that aims to put together a working people's congress in opposition to the US Congress—the Senate and House of Representatives who are beholden to and only care about the ruling class. It will convene in September of this year at Howard University, an HBCU in Washington DC. The Congress will meet to put together a platform and vision for real resistance (read: not voting for Democrats) to not only the odious personality of Donald Trump but the policies he, Pence, and all of the ruling class are pushing and benefit from. The people (and the organizations they work with) who have come together to convene this congress include: Professor Jared Ball (Morgan State University, iMixWhatiLike) Dennis Banks (co-founder and National Field Director, American Indian Movement) Juan Jose Gutierrez (Coordinator, Full Rights for Immigrants Coalition) Mahdi Bray (Executive Director, American Muslim Alliance) Kevin Zeese (Co-Director, Popular Resistance) Dr. Margaret Flowers (Co-Director, Popular Resistance) Anoa J. Changa (Deputy Director, MPACT) Professor Jodi Dean (Hobart and William Smith Colleges) Berthony Dupont (Haiti Liberte) Professor Vijay Prashad (author and journalist) Karina Garcia (Justice Center en El Barrio) Jonathan Hutto (Coordinator, Prince George’s People’s Coalition) Eugene Puryear (Stop Police Terror Project DC) Neal Sweeney (Vice President, UAW Local 5810) Dr. Henry Clark (Executive Director, West County Toxics Coalition) Jim Lafferty (Executive Director Emeritus, National Lawyers Guild Los Angeles) Dominic Moulden (Resource Organizer, ONE DC) Yasmina Mrabet (Community Organizer, ONE DC) Akbar Muhammad (Int’l Representative, Nation of Islam) Gloria La Riva (Party for Socialism and Liberation) Brian Becker (National Coordinator, ANSWER Coalition) Cindy Sheehan (author/activist) Registration is open now - $150 to help sponsor another comrade's way, $100 as a standard registration, and $50 for students or those on a fixed income. There's also a form to fill out if you want to attend but can't afford even the $50 registration.
  7. That's why there is the $50 registration for students/those on fixed income. There is also a form that comrades can fill out if they want to attend but can't afford even the $50 registration. Besides, it's not necessary for everyone to be there personally. Communities can get together, come up with a list of local issues, and send a delegate to the Congress.

The Making of a Leftist Chart

Again, it doesn't really make sense as tactics and strategies must change for each moment of revolutionary potential. No two revolutions are alike. We don't study the Bolshevik Revolution to try and copy their tactics, but to identify the strategies that worked for them in their material conditions.

  11. The Red Fleet scored three hits in its first tag run after reorganization. To better serve European comrades, whose participation has been limited by a lack of opportunities due to the lack of a trained European officer cadre who could select targets and organize operations, The Red Fleet Admiralty Board recently voted to redistribute its members into two new Squadrons: the Huey P. Newton Squadron, serving comrades of the Americas, and the Sankara Squadron for European, African, and Asian comrades. Sailors were assigned to the new squadrons based on their residency, and several sailors were promoted into the officer cadre outside the normal promotion procedure to jump-start the squadron's activity. Experienced officers from the Huey P. Newton Squadron have been working with these new officers to get them up to speed and able to organize independent operations. While the officer class is being trained, regions remain vulnerable. Three such regions fell under the crosshairs of the Fleet tonight. First, four sailors, all from Newton Squadron, swept into Conservative Confederation early in update. The region was selected for its long list of fascist embassies. As sailors faced some downtime waiting for their next target, a sailor from Sankara Squadron logged in and joined the gathering. The next target was United States 0f America—a popular target, apparently. Sailors from The Red Fleet jumped into the region first, but were followed shortly after by sailors from the Royal Navy of the Kingdom of Great Britain. Seeing two groups of raiders move in simultaneously brought the attention of The Grey Wardens, who attempted to endorse the former RRA defender point. When the dust settled, The Red Fleet had taken the WA Delegate seat. Quickly tearing down the stars and stripes, the forces of The Red Fleet hoisted the banner of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea over the shattered region. But jubilation could not last, as a final target rapidly approached. With no time to spare, two comrades switched out to fresh puppets and jumped blindly into the final target, White Peoples Union. Immediately after arriving in the region, the Fleet point was elevated to WA Delegate, allowing the Fleet's ensign to fly victoriously over the racist hellhole. These successful tags will be studied by the up-and-coming officer cadre as they prepare their own operations. Comrades interested in joining The Red Fleet should fill out a Rate Application. No previous raider or defender experience is required! View full article

  13. It really is. And it highlights that Trump is only a temporary manifestation of our real enemy. The Democrats have built up their "resistance" around not being Trump, which is not going to help them against Pence.

Red + Black seeks new writers

Do you like writing? That's pretty neat! The Red + Black is the interregional news service of the NSLeft, which has stagnated as I have been busy with other projects and real life. With the release of IPS Community Suite 4.2, it has become incredibly easy for others to contribute to the R+B and our interregional community. To contribute to the Red + Black, create a new thread in our Newsroom. Don't worry if it looks like there are no threads there—to keep people from being able to see submissions before they are published, the forum is set up so that you can only see your own threads, while editors (currently myself) can see all threads posted. Please be sure to follow the submission guidelines to make it easier for us to add your content to the Red + Black! Happy writing! View full article

  17. TheRedAnd.Black, originally envisioned as the offsite home of The Internationale, has been officially designated as the offsite hub of the NSLeft Solidarity Pact community, which includes The Internationale, North Korea, Federation of Anarchist Communes, Democratic Socialist Assembly, The Leftist Assembly, and The Red Fleet. The five member regions and interregional military organization can now make use of a new feature in version 4.2 of the IPS forum software suite called "Clubs" (referred to on TRAB as "Regions") to effectively organize parallel community areas for each Pact member. "With the Region groups, we have redesigned the main forum itself as the hub of a broad community of leftists from all of our constituent member regions. Any NSLeft comrade or visitor from outside our community can participate in discussions, debates, games, book clubs, and events organized by community members. Member regions, through the Region groups, act as spokes in the wheel around this hub, with additional region-specific activities and events organized by the members of those regions." The Internationale and The Red Fleet have transferred their existing forums to the Region group system, and are offering assistance to other regions who may want to set up their offsite Region. A web-based companion to Lenin the Discord bot has been debuted. Named Tchaikovsky, the forum bot handles the sorting of all forum members into the appropriate regional groups. On an hourly basis, all members have their group status confirmed by the bot, which checks against The Red Fleet's up-to-the-minute database of regional residents. Regional Officers are granted moderator rights in their region's group. This automation prevents the need for any region or its members to waste time and resources on citizenship applications or usergroup changes after new elections, which frequently get bogged down when bureaucrats get overwhelmed outside of NationStates. Each region may specify additional requirements, such as WA Category restrictions, for members to be sorted into their region group. In addition to the long-standing NationStates login verification upon registration and Discord integration, TheRedAnd.Black now enables its users to claim additional nations as theirs, enabling cosmopolitan members of several regions to participate in each regions' offsite group. Members may also change their primary display name to that of any claimed puppet. On Discord, members may similarly change their nickname on any server using strict NSLeft authentication (currently used by the NSLeft interregional server, The Internationale, The Red Fleet, and The Leftist Assembly) to that of any claimed puppet. From its origin as the home of a single region to the flourishing offsite home to a broad community of leftists, TheRedAnd.Black has come a long way. We're working to bring about the reality that Otto von Bismarck reportedly warned about after the split between anarchists and socialists following the First International: crowned heads, wealth and privilege may well tremble should ever again the red and black unite! Forum Update 101

Comrades, The beta release of IPS Community Suite 4.2 is coming soon. With the update, we will finally do away with the "Comrade Member/Visitor" distinction between Comrade Members of The Internationale and members of other NSLeft regions. All players who have claimed any nation residing in an NSLeft member region will be sorted into the NSLeft usergroup, while all other people who sign up on the forum (or move all claimed nations out of NSLeft member regions) will be sorted into the Visitor usergroup. Also coming with the update will be the first publicly-available use of the "Clubs" feature, which we will be calling "Regions" in our community, reflecting their intent as offsite communities for member regions of the NSLeft. Regions will have members automatically added through a new process that checks all claimed puppets against the nation lists of each NSLeft member region. If a user has a claimed puppet in any NSLeft member region, they will be added to that region's club. The only exception is The Red Fleet, whose membership is handled independently by the Admiralty Board. You don't have to do anything special to join your region's "club" - just let the forum handle it for you! We're big fans of fully automated luxury queer space communism here. Each member region of the NSLeft is granted its own space, and support will be provided to comrades who wish to flesh out their corner of our community. No question is too ridiculous or simple! This is a brand-new venture. As an example, The Internationale's region will be set up using the currently-existing forums under the TI category. These forums will be entirely integrated into the TI region and will therefore be removed from the NSLeft forum listing. Regional Officers in each region will automatically be granted Moderator status within the region. They will be able to set the region icon and cover photo, as well as general moderator abilities such as locking, pinning, etc. This only grants moderator status within each respective region, not within other regions or the site as a whole. Proletaire and I will remain as the administrators and community-wide moderators. There is also some other stuff that is a work-in-progress...

    Forum Update 101

"NSLeft Afterdark" is now available as our dark theme. You can enable Afterdark by clicking on (mobile: tapping on) "Theme" at the bottom of the page and then selecting "Afterdark": Let me know if you find anything that looks wonky with this theme. I already know the text box is still bright, I'll have to get a dark-theme skin for it.

    Forum Update 101

That one is taking some time as we are still working out kinks in the light theme. We are also working through some bugs that have come to light in the transition to 4.2. A bug has been identified in the puppet claim system that wipes all claimed puppets when adding a new one. I know how to fix it, but I've disabled that page until I can get around to it tomorrow. If you see anything that looks off, no matter how small, please report it here so we can take a look at it and fix any bugs that pop up.

    Symbol of the NSLeft Chosen!

By a democratic vote of the comrades from the various regions of the NSLeft, please join me in congratulating comrade @Asturies-Llion of The Internationale for designing the winning symbol! This symbol has been added to our site as the logo and favicon, replacing the placeholder "NSLeft" text logo and TI flag as the favicon. A minor edit was made to the font selection to match the font used by the logo of the Red + Black news service. The vote proceeded as follows: Anonymous (FAC) Anonymous (TI) Asturies-Llion Ayanka British Accia 7 4 6 4 6 9 10 8 12 15 In the first round, Anonymous (TI) and Ayanka's designs were eliminated as they tied for fewest preferential rankings. Their second- or third-preference votes were distributed to the three remaining designs. (The same result is had by eliminating either one individually and proceeding in the same way. In any event, these two designs are eliminated in the opening rounds.) In the second round, British Accia's design was eliminated as it had the fewest preferential rankings. The next preference was distributed to the remaining designs. In the final round, Asturies-Llion's design won with a majority of preferences cast. Congratulations to Asturies-Llion and thank you to all comrades who presented a design and voted!
